Review: Fake Problems – Real Ghosts Caught On Tape

Fake Problems, the Florida based band, got their name from having a no-problems-or-commitment attitude towards their music. Luckily, they seem to have maintained that same attitude even after a run of very real issues. Their new album Real Ghosts Caught On Tape, will be a pleasing experience to old and new fans alike.

Starting out, “Songs For Teenagers” has a darker undertone than most of the album. The lyrics sound like a teenager’s lament over how awful their lives may or may not be. The partying, the rebellion, it’s all put into this one laid back song.

Next is something much more lively, “Soulless” (Listen Here), which is reminiscent of Jet’s “Are You Gonna Be My Girl” in it’s intro of a solid drum beat with maracas standing in for the familiar tambourine of the Jet’s tune. However the background music is the only similarity between the two since Fake Problems are not as harsh in the lyrical delivery. Vocalist, Chris Farren, delivers the lines with sincerity and happiness.

Last up is “Done With Fun”, a song focused on that fed up feeling one can get after hanging around with the same crowd a bit too often. Sung with a much gruffer sound than the rest of the album, Farren puts forth distaste for monotony that can be easily identified with. The sixties style of the music also allows for audiences to get up and dance, even when the message is a bit less friendly.

Overall Fake ProblemsReal Ghosts Caught On Tape is a solid record that listeners will keep going back to, no matter their mood. Chris Farren makes the lyrics believable, while all the songs mesh together to form one cohesive album. It’s for sure that positive recognition will be far from a problem for the band.
