Review: Gasoline Silver – Gasoline Silver

The Minnesota based trio Gasoline Silver formed back in 2009. And with not much more than a year under their belt it seems as though their self-titled debut album could have benefited from a bit more style searching.

From first listen, Gasoline Silver seems to be a hodgepodge of musical genres put onto one album. Every other song makes the audience feel like a new band has suddenly infiltrated their ear buds. On the first track “Indianapolis” there is a 70’s punk feeling that flows through the speakers. Then a harmonica makes an appearance totally throwing the listener for a loop making it feel very folk-y and a touch jazzy.

The mouth organ makes a comeback in “The Wild Farewell”, a sixties inspired style of an almost acoustic like sound, but at least the instrument better fits in with this time period. Then suddenly, Gasoline Silver takes a hard rock approach to their music with the song “It’s All Over But The Cryin’”. The beat is hard and very electric guitar influenced which doesn’t really mesh with the vibe they try to put forward on a lot of the other songs.
