There is a wide array of music in the world. Some of it is background music, where you don’t really listen to it and it’s just enough noise to keep one from going insane from complete silence. Then there is the music that you just find yourself completely immersed and you can’t let go. Somehow, Savannah Jo Lack‘s album, Knitting Songs falls somewhere in the middle. The lyrics are catchy, but aren’t overwhelming or in your face. The music is light and airy, using mainly violins, drums and a guitar.
“Papa Don’t Go So Fast” sounds as though it should be sang by a chorus of Savannahs, rather than one singer. The lyrics and the music lend themselves to this idea and could quite possibly make it even more catchy than it already is. “Knitting Song”, also happens to be the shortest song. But, Savannah makes up for the lack of time with the level of passion that she puts into the song. The violin, which was a minor part of the rest of the songs thus far, makes a triumphant return and almost overwhelms Savannah’s voice. The album rounds out with another memorable track, “Too Short, Too Beautiful”, which has a very Jamaican beachy sound to it.
Overall, Knitting Songs is a perfect addition to the collection of any person that has a habit of sitting on the back porch relaxing in the afternoon, an alcoholic beverage in hand and a group of friends around. It would be difficult to lose yourself in the music, but it could be done. However, this is almost required for those that just like to sit and stare out into the world, thinking about all the possibilities.
