Review: Nikki Lane – Gone, Gone, Gone EP

South Carolina native Nikki Lane’s newest EP is sure to turn a few heads on the country music scene. After self-releasing her first album, IAMSOUND took notice and together they’ve released the upbeat four song Gone, Gone, Gone. While Lane has only been playing musically seriously since 2009, her natural abilities shine through on this album. Her sound is rooted in traditional Nashville country music, but her mix of Rock and Americana cause her to stand apart from the crowd.

If you watch the singer’s video for title track “Gone, Gone, Gone,” you may just think you’re watching an old Loretta Lynn video. From the styling to the song itself, Lane’s music is heavily influenced by classic country artists. The expected twang rings clear and the lap steel is the star instrument, but each song remains easy to listen to, and has a wide appeal beyond just country music fans. Her songs all tell stories, from leaving home in “Gone, Gone, Gone” , to that of a drunkard in “Down to the Wire”. Regardless of the content in her lyrics, Lane’s music is consistently charming, sweet and fun.

Walk of Shame, Nikki Lane’s full length album, is set to be released in the fall. If it’s anything like Gone, Gone, Gone, it should bring success to this new artist.

Final Words: Classic country with a contemporary twist.
