Review: The Heaven Switch – The Heaven Switch

L.A. singer-songwriter Ryan Calhoun is debuting his new project The Heaven Switch with radio ready pop tunes. The Heaven Switch is a combination of Bieber-like relationship lyrics, pop-punk guitar, and vocal quality resembling OneRepublic.

Young adults with mindless musical taste will enjoy the album’s first single, “Fault Lines”, which is destined for the radio with its catchy beats, easy lyrics, and a chorus that repeats itself at least four times. Other over-the-top pop tracks include “Raise A Flag” and “Stolen Car”, the first two songs on the album. These two songs, like the rest, are centered around a lady. The Heaven Switch’s romance lyrics are too simple. A person who has never tasted heartbreak could have written them. For example, in “You Said” Calhoun sings, “The streets, the stars, the spinning world, the love, the hate, it’s so absurd”. The album was produced by a few of the greats including Bill Lefler, Mike Green, and Dallas Kruse, who did a fantastic job making sure that at least the musical aspects of the album are up to par. “The Best of Times” wraps up the album’s journey through mediocre pop radio as un-spectacular as the rest of the album.

The Heaven Switch will be a great album for teens that have little interest in the quality of a song and care more about what’s popular. The Heaven Switch is bound to live in the pop radio charts for 15 minutes and then disappear into one-hit-wonder purgatory.

Last Words: Switch the radio station, The Heaven Switch is taking over.
