HM: Changing gears a bit, tell me about your next album. Do you have an idea for what direction you’ll be headed in?
Jay: Tribal Melodic Dance Hardcore Rock. Its up-tempo, its groovy, its nasty guitars and upbeat. Rock mixed with hip-hop, it’s sexy and nasty. There’s no other way to describe it. It will be better though; more fine tuned than our last album.
Jawnee: Hopefully fans have fun listening to it, in terms of dancing. Our last record was meant for lovers under the sheets. This one should be a little more upbeat and dance oriented. We have had a lot of our friends doing club remixes of our stuff and it inspired our new direction and gives us a bit more “booty bounce” as I would like to say.
Jay: It’s not like electronic, and that’s why I mention tribal. It’s just more primitive and we want to make people dance their fucking brains out and then come back and listen to our lyrics and get our message.
We are trying to come from a more energetic place rather than the somber, dark place of our first records. I was definitely in a dark place when I wrote most of those songs and now I feel more uplifted and a little bit more positive for the future. We are all looking forward to it because it is a new direction for all of us. Kenny has been working his ass off on the drums, really getting a work out. He has been playing like his life depends on it on every song. It’s really incredible and inspiring to watch him play like that.
HM: Has forming That Noise changed you personally in any way? What are the different dynamics of being musicians, singers, and song-writers, and just being people at the same time?
Jawnee: Oh yeah it’s changed us personally. This is our band and our creative experience. I think I have become less passive. I am a lot more confrontational now since That Noise began. Or maybe that’s my girlfriend (laughs).
Jay: Let’s be honest, every day we change as people, every day is something new.
HM: Is there anything else you could imagine doing, aside from music?
Jay: I have thought about that and I ask myself that question, but I get this like terrible feeling, like, “No”. But I would be into like, quantum physics or some sort of scientific… weird-nerdy-study of things. I am also an inventor. I have some things I want to put out there and create prototypes for. I actually have a few provisional patents out there.
Jawnee: I would probably be organizing a revolution of sorts and get myself assassinated (laughs). I don’t know, either that or (sighs) doing animal porn. Got to pay the bills.
Jay: You will get to know Jawnee’s sense of humor.
Jawnee: I’m not kidding man (laughs) I am trying to be honest.
HM: Finally, what do you want people who aren’t familiar with That Noise, to know about you?
Jawnee: Shit, that’s a good question. The short answer is; I guess, to know that our band is worth listening to, and for people to come check us out and see us play and to definitely give us a chance to play for you.
Jay: Its real, it’s fun, it’s not manufactured in a Hollywood basement or big time record company.
Jawnee: Our music has energy and production. We are doing it all on our own. We’re feeling it and it comes from the heart, and makes people feel good.
Let’s hope this evolving band can maintain their powerful path of enlightenment and musical exploration to fame.
