
No one was surprised to hear Adele’s name several times when the Grammy Award nominations were announced and rightfully so. The UK-based diva garnered six nods including record and song of the year noms for “Rolling In The Deep” and album of the year for 21.
Joining her in the Album of the Year category are Foo Fighters (Wasting Light), Lady Gaga (Born This Way), Bruno Mars (Doo-Wops & Hooligans), and Rihanna (Loud). The Band Perry, Jagjaguwar’s Bon Iver, and Skrillex are up for Best New Artist but may face some stiff competition from J. Cole and Nicki Minaj.
Zonoscope will go up against Deadmau5, David Guetta, Robyn and Skrillex for Best Dance/Electronica Album. Foo Fighters will compete with Jeff Beck, Kings of Leon, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Wilco for Best Rock LP. And Bon Iver will tussle with Death Cab For Cutie, Foster The People, My Morning Jacket, and Radiohead for Best Alternative Album.
Tedeschi Trucks Band landed a nom for their album, Revelator. But will have to go up against Gregg Allman, Marcia Ball, Warren Haynes, and Keb Mo to get the Grammy. Meanwhile in the land of Folk, New West Records’ Steve Earle is nominated for Best Folk Album along with The Civil Wars, Fleet Foxes, Eddie Vedder, and Gillian Welch.
The 54th Grammys will air on February 12 on CBS at 8p.
